Frequently Asked Questions
When is the sequel to NEED coming out?
It is out! It’s called CAPTIVATE and if you go to the BOOKS I WROTE button and click on CAPTIVATE you can read about it.
And the cover is awesome sauce.
Will there be more NEED books?
Yep! The next book was CAPTIVATE and the book after that will come out in December 2010/January 2011. Yes, I know that’s an incredibly long time (unless it’s already December when you read this). My publisher will have sneak peeks and contests at www.needpixies.com You should check it out if you need a fix.
Will there be a NEED movie? Or TV show? And can I be in it?
That would be so cool. There’s a great guy at McIntosh and Otis, which is the literary agency that sells my books and handles the contracts and stuff. He is in charge of selling movie rights. Let’s all give him super-amazing-movie-rights mojo. Ready? Cool. Thanks.
Even if there was a movie, I wouldn’t get to cast it though.
Sometimes I think someone should make a MAKE NEED A MOVIE group on Facebook or something.
Can I friend you on Facebook?
Absolutely! I love friends. They are like strudel and ice cream and dogs. You can never have too many.
Will there be more books about Belle and Tom from TIPS ON HAVING A GAY (ex) BOYFRIEND?
Well, LOVE AND OTHER USES FOR DUCT TAPE) is actually the sequel to TIPS. I really miss writing about Belle and Emily and Tom and Shawn. I’d love to write another one. I’m not sure if it will happen though.
How do you pronounce Zara?
Like Sarah but with a Z.
How do you pronounce Nick?
Just kidding!
Will you read my story?
I totally wish that I could because I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading stories. It is one of my favorite things ever but for legal reasons I can’t. My agent will get super mad at me and I hate when that happens.
Are the people in your novels based on people that you know? Are the places in the books real?
My high school best friend, Jackie, could tell you that she sees a lot of herself in Emily in TIPS. But Emily isn’t her. That happens a lot in my books. Tom Tanner is definitely based on a cute guy in my high school. It was pretty embarrassing when he found me on Facebook and messaged me that he was reading my book. I was all, “Um… Okay… Um… I need to tell you something. DO NOT THINK I AM HITTING ON YOU!”
The places in my books are ¼ real and ¾ imagined.
Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?
I didn’t. I wanted to be assassinated bringing peace to a country in civil unrest and then have U2 sing songs about me. I was a sick kid. I always wrote things though.
Do you write every day?
Yes. Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes it is super easy.
I read that you got a Masters at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Is that true?
Yes. And it is an AMAZING college. The people there made me a much better writer. I love them. I also owe them.
They tried to teach me to not say ‘sorry’ so much. It didn’t work. You can ask Tim Wynne-Jones. I really frustrated him a lot, I think, but he was kind about it.
Will you come read at my town?
I would love to do that I bet. I don’t usually get to chose where I sign books. My publisher does that.
I am a writer. Can you read my book and blurb it?
All blurb requests have go through my agent, Edward Necarsulmer at McIntosh and Otis. He is super nice (except when he is being stern with me) and you should not be intimidated about emailing him. He is also a very snazzy dresser. http://www.mcintoshandotis.net/
